Winter in my opinion is a spectacular season in South Africa. And one of my favourite times to explore local hidden gems and escape to somewhere we haven’t been before.
We often seek getaways far from home, forgetting about how many amazing places there are for us to experience, literally on our doorstep.
LOCATION & NAME
Le Pommier Wine Estate with its distinctive French name is a reminder that the part of the farm on which it stands was once a flourishing apple orchard.

The Estate is situated in the Cape Winelands, on the Helshoogte Pass, the main route between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek and offers magnificent views, superb service and hospitality.
On offer not only award-winning wines but also delicious food and cosy, intimate accommodation for couples and families alike. This is the ideal getaway.
ACCOMMODATION
We were fortunate to experience the best of Le Pommier and it is by far one of the most enjoyable experiences we had in the valley.
There are 6 suites, 7 country rooms and 2 self-catering units in typical luxury country house style and comfort. They are all set for relaxation, as the units are situated in a super tranquil environment amongst the vineyards, with mountain and pond views.
We stayed in a self-catering two-bedroom unit with an en-suite featuring luxurious amenities, a spacious and well-equipped kitchen, a private braai area, outdoor seating and a splash pool overlooking the pond. In the room: desk space, cupboard space, lounge area with DSTV and free Wi-Fi.
The view from the bedroom was breathtaking and we were delighted to wake up in such a relaxed setting.
Overall the unit was really comfortable and very well appointed.
The outside pool area with loungers and tables is perfect for soaking in some winter sun whilst indulging in a homemade charcuterie platter and enjoying the Le Pommier vineyards and Mountain View (of course!)
This is the ultimate escape from day-to-day life to just relax and enjoy the simple things in life. It is where one can “eliminate the unnecessary, for the necessary to speak.”

RESTAURANT
The restaurant and bar experience at Le Pommier offers service and food that speak to the soul and promotes the “eat well” philosophy. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. On those cold winter days and evenings, the cosy roaring fire sets the mood. The breakfast, lunch and dinner menu is a selection of heart-warming dishes made from local ingredients and with tons of love. We enjoyed a sunny morning breakfast followed by candlelight dinner by the fireplace and the most divine comfort foods. Their chicken pie is to die for not to mention their pizzas and other winter specialities.
Le Pommier embodies the saying “there is no love sincerer than the love of food.”
The service is hands down fantastic – the team is super friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The Restaurant is open for sit-downs and take-aways: MON – SAT | 8am – 11pm and SUN | 8am – 6pm.

WINES
The philosophy behind the Le Pommier wines is “best enjoyed with great company, family, friends, love and laughter, with or without food.” They offer pairings that include a Le Pommier Sauvignon Blanc, Le Pommier Rosé, Le Pommier MAC Malbec and Cabernet Franc blend. Le Pommier Jonathan’s Malbec and Le Pommier Angle Peur Cabernet Franc is a limited-release wines and are only available to enjoy in the restaurant. If you visit the estate, you can also purchase this wine directly from the wine tasting area.

We would highly recommend Le Pommier as a winter getaway (overnight or for the day) as their offering ticked all the boxes of a perfect winter escape.
